MANILA, Philippines (3rd UPDATE) -- Far Eastern University’s (FEU) Arvie Bringas will be suspended for one game after the bruising forward incurred two unsportsmanlike fouls in the Tamaraws’ loss to the Ateneo Blue Eagles Wednesday.

UAAP Commissioner Ato Badolato confirmed that Bringas has been suspended for the Tamaraws' next game, which will be against the National University Bulldogs.

"We have a rule that if you are given a disqualifying foul, that merits an automatic one-game suspension," Badolato said in an interview with Boom Gonzales.

"That's what happened to Bringas. He was given a disqualifying foul for spitting on the face of (Ateneo forward Justin) Chua. That's a one-game suspension," he said.

Bringas was assessed his first unsportsmanlike foul in the first quarter, and incurred another one during the fourth period, when the game was getting away from the Tamaraws.

With a little over six minutes left in the game, Ateneo’s Greg Slaughter bumped Bringas while making his way towards the bench, sending the Tamaraw sprawling to the floor.

Bringas quickly got up and retaliated by spitting towards the Ateneo bench. The referees gave him a disqualifying foul and threw him out of the game.

The Tamaraws went on to lose 77-64.

The Far Eastern University Athletic Department has also imposed an additional one-game ban on Bringas, making him unavailable for the Tamaraws' game against the University of the East Red Warriors on September 8.

Players warned

The game itself was highly physical, featuring several hard fouls and player collisions all throughout. In the first quarter, Ateneo’s Ryan Buenafe and FEU’s Mark Belo were both ejected after being slapped with a combination of unsportsmanlike and technical fouls.

"(Belo and Buenafe) were disqualified from the game because they had an unsportsmanlike foul and a technical foul," Badolato explained.

"The technical was for trash talking, so that doesn’t count as a foul that is meant to hurt," he added.

Badolato said both Buenafe and Belo will be given warnings.

The Commissioner said that Ateneo center Greg Slaughter will also be given a warning for elbowing Bringas.

FEU forward Roger Pogoy will also be given a warning after elbowing Ateneo point guard Juami Tiongson in the second half, when Tiongson crashed near the Tamaraws' bench.

Ateneo's reserve center JP Erram has also been suspended for one game. Badolato said a replay showed that Erram kicked FEU's Carl Bryan Cruz during the second quarter.

Badolato decided to upgrade the infraction to an unsportsmanlike foul. It was Erram's second of the season, which led to a one-game suspension.

Ateneo will next play their fierce rivals De La Salle University.
