'Boom Boom', Barrera to clash in rematch
MANILA, Philippines – The rivalry between Rey “Boom Boom” Bautista and Mexican Alejandro “Zorrito” Barrera will continue as they are set to clash again, the promotions company that handles the Filipino divulged.
According to PhilBoxing.com’s Salven L. Lagumbay, Antonio L. Aldeguer of ALA Promotions said in a radio interview that the fighters’ camps have agreed to a rematch.
Barrera’s team called for a rematch following the Mexican’s 4th round technical decision loss to Bautista at the Waterfront Cebu City Hotel & Casino in Lahug.
The Mexican, a cousin of boxing legend Marco Antonio Barrera, suffered a huge gash over his right eyelid which prompted the referee to stop the bout following the advice of the ringside physician.
Aldeguer also told DyHP-RMN’s “Pinoy Boxing” program that the Bautista-Barrera part 2 will have to take place after Bautista’s October 29 fight in Dubai, United Arab Emirates.
Bautista is set to face United States-based Dominican Republic fighter Hector Julio Avila.
Barrera and Bautista headlined the main event of “Philippines vs the World.”
The Philippines scored a 4-0 sweep with the wins of Bautista, Jimrex “The Executioner” Jaca, Milan “Milenyo” Melindo and Florante “Little Pacquiao” Condes.
Jaca and Melindo scored knockout victories over Jose “Pipino” Cuevas, Jr. of Mexico and Jin-Man Jeon of South Korea, respectively.
Condes defeated Indonesian Sofyan Effindi by unanimous decision with 80-71 across the board. – With a report from Philboxing.com
