Austria leaving Adamson after UAAP 76
MANILA, Philippines – Adamson University coach Leo Austria has announced that he will be stepping down from his post after the 76th UAAP men’s basketball season.
The former PBA coach said he will no longer extend his contract with Adamson and will give the university a free hand in choosing his replacement.
“I think this will be my last season in the UAAP not because I’m going to the PBA but I want them to have a change,” said Austria in Reuben Terrado’s Spin.ph report.
The Falcons had a respectable 3-2 start this season but suffered six successive loses after that. The slump ended when they beat University of the Philippines, 67-53 on Saturday.
Austria said some members of the Adamson community are beginning to lose confidence in him.
“We were doing well [at that time]… They see good things from me. But after the losing, everything has changed especially in the community,” he said.
Austria said he will be taking a vacation and recharge his batteries after this season.
“For the whole year, I’m coaching and I don’t have a vacation. Maybe polluted na ako sa basketball,” said the coach, who also mentored the San Miguel Beermen that won the ASEAN Basketball League title.
