Marquez reaches training peak
MANILA – Juan Manuel “Dinamita” Marquez revealed that he has approached his peak in training while preparing for his Sept. 19 bout against Floyd “Money” Mayweather, Jr.
“We are peaking right now but we want to be careful that we don't over train,” he told DiamondBoxing.com.
Because of this, Marquez said he does sparring every other day. His sparring partners include Robert Norris from Cuba and other fighters from Panama and Monterey.
He described his sparring partners as “very fast and have Mayweather's similar style of coming in with his shoulder high and rolling to the right looking for counters.”
Marquez also disclosed that he is working on many fundamentals such as learning how to cut the ring off and limit his foe’s movement.
In addition, he is working on “throwing combinations “while on the inside.”
“We are working a lot of defense, learning Mayweather's technique and actions,” said Marquez in his interview held at the Gym Romanza in Mexico City.
Feeling strong
With the fight more than two weeks away, Marquez noted that his training has been going very well.
“I feel very strong… I honestly feel we are at the best we can be,” he said.
He also shared that his team has been working very hard for his clash against the former pound-for-pound king.
“We are very happy on how strong we feel and how successfully we've gained the weight,” related Marquez.
“So we are very confident come fight night, and come fight night, people will see this,” he declared.
Marquez will face Mayweather in the main event of “Number One/Numero Uno” on Sept. 19 at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, Nevada.
