'Marvelous' Manalo moves into World 9-Ball main draw
MANILA -- Veteran cue artist Marlon Manalo nabbed a slot in the World Pool 9-Ball Championship at the Al Arabi Sports Club in Doha, Qatar on Tuesday.
Manalo, nicknamed “The Marvelous,” defeated Jasen Al Hasawi of Kuwait, 7-6, in one of the 12 qualifying tournaments to gain a seat in the world pool main draw.
The village chief of Barangay Malamig, Mandaluyong City blasted Sultan Alfalih of Kingdom of Saudi Arabia (7-0), compatriot Demosthenes Pulpul (7-5) and Mohammad Ali Hassan of Saudi (7-0) to face Al Hasawi.
With the win, Manalo advanced to the 128 player-field main draw of the World Pool 9-Ball Championship.
There, he will join fellow Filipinos Efren "Bata" Reyes, Francisco "Django" Bustamante, Dennis Orcollo, Lee Vann Corteza, Carlo Biado, Jeffrey de Luna, Israel Rota and Antonio Gabica, the national coach of Qatar.
