Petron, Barako seek to end each other's streaks
MANILA, Philippines – One streak is going to end when Petron Blaze and Barako Bull clash at the season ending conference PBA Governors’ Cup on Tuesday night.
The Boosters are streaking with four straight wins in five games, but are expected to face a formidable Energy team which strung together three straight victories in previous matches.
“Big game for us because one streak has to end and I’m hoping it’s not ours,” said Petron coach Gee Abanilla in the PBA website.
Abanilla said he hopes the Boosters won’t rely on defense alone when they battle the Energy.
“In our last game, defense saved us. Against Barako, we are hoping to do well on both ends because they are a very strong and well-coached team. We are hoping to compete at a high level against them,” he said.
Barako coaching consultant Rajko Toroman is expecting an uphill battle with what he calls the “strongest team” in the league.
“Tough game for us. We play versus the strongest team in the PBA with (a) great import,” he said. “But we are in good shape and we will try to make a miracle and win.”
The Energy is indeed capable of pulling of surprises as shown by their 104-91 upset against Barangay Ginebra last Friday.
Petron, on ther other hand, hammered out an 89-83 win over San Mig Coffee last Saturday.
