Ateneo coach Perasol slapped with one-game suspension
MANILA (2nd UPDATE) - The UAAP Board has suspended Ateneo head coach Bo Perasol for one game following his near-altercation with a fan after the Blue Eagles' loss to De La Salle last Sunday.
"The board discussed his behavior, so we decided to give him a one-game suspension, effectively immediately," said UAAP Board Secretary-Treasurer Malou Isip. "He will be suspended on Sunday during their game against UE (University of the East)."
The fan who heckled Perasol, identified as La Salle alumnus JJ Atayde, has been banned from attending basketball games for the rest of the UAAP season.
"Ang mission and vision naman ng UAAP is for us to promote ... sportsmanship, and we want to be consistent on that. The players, the coaches and the officials should observe good behavior," Isip explained.
Ricky Palou, Ateneo's representative to the UAAP Board, said they will accept Perasol's suspension.
"The Board decided to suspend him and we accept their decision," Palou said. "That is the board already, so wala ng (appeal)."
Perasol charged after Atayde following their 64-66 loss to arch-rivals La Salle. He alleged that Atayde cursed and heckled at him while he and the team were making their way back to the dugout.
