Arum: Pacquiao finally picks foe
Announcement to be made by end of week
MANILA, Philippines – Manny Pacquiao has finally decided who he wants to face in December, boxing promoter Bob Arum said.
The Top Rank CEO told Brad Cooney of 8 Count News that they will make their formal announcement by the end of the week.
Arum said he’s given strict instructions not to divulge the name of Pacquiao’s opponent.
“We're not in liberty to tell you who [he's fighting]... that's my instructions,” the veteran promoter said.
Arum said the fight is scheduled to take place on December 8 at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada.
It took Pacquiao a long while before he made his final choice, but all indications point to his Mexican rival, Juan Manuel Marquez.
When asked if he was frustrated by the delays, Arum said no.
“It's just part of the business, why would I be frustrated?”
Arum added that they still have plenty of time to promote the bout, especially now that the fight date has been moved.
“December is a long, long time so we have plenty of time. Manny will be coming over to this country by 14-15 of September so we'll do the tour and the press conference right after the Chavez-Martinez fight,” he said.
