Donaire aims to bounce back in Darchinyan fight
MANILA, Philippines – Nonito “The Filipino Flash” Donaire Jr. is raring to bounce back from his decision loss to Guillermo Rigondeaux when he faces Australian-Armenian boxer Vic Darchinyan in November.
The 10-round non-title fight, a rematch between Donaire and Darchiyan, will take place at the featherweight division.
“I want to come back and establish my name and that’s all I’m thinking of right now,” the former world champion said in an interview with Boxing Scene’s Ronnie Nathanielsz.
It was Donaire’s sensational fifth-round knockout over Darchinyan in 2007 that catapulted the Filipino Flash to boxing fame. That victory earned Donaire the IBF and BO flyweight titles.
“I’m getting ready and will train hard and not let anything disrupt his preparation” said Donaire.
Donaire, who lives in Las Vegas, added that he will visit his coach Robert Garcia’s gym in Oxnard , California to map out their strategy against Darchinyan.
“When I’m in shape to start sparring again I will drive to Oxnard once in a while to work on a game-plan with trainer Robert Garcia,” he said.
