Lyceum pulls off upset over Letran
MANILA – The Lyceum Pirates surprised league-leader Letran Knights with an 80-76 squeaker on Thursday in the NCAA men’s basketball tournament.
Aziz Mbomiko paced the Pirates with 22 points, 7 boards, and 5 steals.
But it was Jeremiah Taladua who played hero for Lyceum by connecting from beyond the arc, giving the Pirates the 78-76 lead 18.1 ticks remaining.
Taladua finished the game with 5 points.
It was the Knights' second loss in 11 starts. Letran remained on top of the standings with a 9-2 slate.
The Pirates, on the other hand, improved to 4-7.
Meanwhile, San Sebastian broke a three-game slump by manhandling Emilio Aguinaldo College, 90-69, in the other NCAA match.
Jovit Dela Cruz led the Stags with a double-double output of 25 points and 11 rebounds. Jamil Ortuoste also fired 27 big ones for San Sebastian.
Cedric Happi paced the Generals with 16 points.
