Roach: Pacquiao faces difficult fight vs Marquez
MANILA, Philippines – All indications seem to point to another monumental battle between Manny Pacquiao and Juan Manuel Marquez.
But Pacquiao’s own boxing coach admitted that it will be a difficult bout for the Filipino fighting congressman.
“The thing is that Marquez does have a hard style for us,” Freddie Roach said in On The Ropes Boxing Radio.
Roach said Marquez’s efficient counter-punching style has been a very tough puzzle for them to solve.
He said the Mexican seemed to have memorized Pacquiao’s movements that he could lead the Filipino directly to his powerful right hand.
“He knows how to get Manny to move into the right hand and we just got to nullify that… we better get it done in this fight or we won't win this one,” said Roach.
Marquez is one of the two opponents being chosen as Pacquiao’s foe on December 8. The other boxer is Timothy Bradley.
Top Rank’s Bob Arum said the Filipino champion has already made his pick and that they will make a formal announcement by the end of the week.
Rumor has it that Pacquiao chose Marquez.
“It's a very difficult fight stylewise for us, he does give us problems,” said Roach. “But I think if Manny Pacquiao gets in the best shape he can, we will finally close the book on Marquez.”
