NEW YORK - Double NASCAR champion Jimmie Johnson held off Tony Stewart over the final 10 laps and won his second consecutive race with victory at Richmond, Virginia on Sunday.

Johnson overtook Martin Truex with 33 laps to go, yielded the lead briefly to Stewart, then regained it for his fourth victory of the season.

The race was the final event before the 10-race series for the NASCAR title.

Stewart finished second to Johnson, with Denny Hamlin third and Dale Earnhardt Jr. fourth.

They will be joined by points leader Kyle Busch, Carl Edwards, Jeff Burton, Kevin Harvick, Greg Biffle, Jeff Gordon, Matt Kenseth and Clint Bowyer in the field for the championship run.

"I think our chances are good," Johnson told reporters when asked about his bid for a third championship. "I think we have all the tools.

"If we don't win, they can't say we weren't trying."
