MANILA, Philippines – The San Beda Red Lions racked win No. 12 by beating the Mapua Cardinals, 90-78, in the 86th NCAA men’s basketball tournament at The Arena in San Juan City on Wednesday.

San Beda, the top placer among the Final Four teams, rode on Garvo Lanete’s career-high 30 points.

The Red Lions capitalized on a strong opening, scoring 24 points in the first period against the Cardinals’ 13.

San Beda widened its lead to 13 points at the half, 39-26, with Lanete leading the charge.

Allan Mangahas kick-started Mapua back to life in the third period when the Cardinals tried matching the Lions point-by-point.

Despite losing Andretti Stevens to injury, the Cardinals were able to chop the lead to 9 points, 66-57.

Lanete and Jason Pascual then launched a blistering run to bring up San Beda’s lead to 12 points with 2 minutes left remaining in the final quarter.

This rattled the Cardinals, who were forced to shoot from the outside. Most of these shots missed and led to Mapua's 5th loss against 7 wins this season.

Earlier, the Letran Knights (5-7) routed the Perpetual Altas (0-12), 90-61.
