UE tries to keep Final Four hopes alive against Ateneo
MANILA, Philippines –The University of the East Red Warriors will be fighting for their playoff lives when they take on the Ateneo Blue Eagles in a crucial UAAP Season 76 game Sunday afternoon at the Mall of Asia Arena.
The Red Warriors, with their 5-6 win-loss slate, will need to defeat the Blue Eagles (6-5) in order to remain in contention for a spot in the Final Four. A loss today eliminates them from the Final Four race.
Meanwhile, the Blue Eagles are also targeting victory as they aim to keep in step with the University of Santo Tomas (7-5) in the playoff race.
“We’re not out, we’re not out. We’re still there,” UE Coach Boycie Zamar said following his team’s loss to La Salle last week, which was their third consecutive defeat. “We have to do fine-tuning again. Eto ‘yung realidad.”
“Lahat ng last three games namin ay importante,” he added. “Kung pwede kami sumabit sa Final Four, kailangan naming sumabit. Kung kailang dun ‘yung playoff para sa No. 4 spot, we will do it.”
The Blue Eagles, who are coming off a loss at the hands of archrival La Salle, are dealing with problems of their own as head coach Bo Perasol has been suspended for a game following his confrontation with a DLSU fan at the end of their game last week.
Assistant coach Sandy Arespacochaga will be calling the shots for the Blue Eagles today.
The game tips off at 2:00 pm and will be shown live starting 1:30 pm on Studio 23.
