UE's Sumang to undergo MRI
MANILA, Philippines -- University of the East (UE) guard Roi Sumang will have to undergo an MRI on his right knee after injuring it late in their game against the Ateneo Blue Eagles Sunday at the Mall of Asia Arena.
Sumang, who tied his career-high with 27 points, crashed to the court with a little over a minute left to play in the game and had to be helped back to the bench by his teammates.
The Blue Eagles went on to win, 77-72.
"He has to undergo an MRI," UE head coach Boycie Zamar confirmed after the game, minutes after Sumang was taken out of the venue on a stretcher, with his right knee in a splint.
"Ang importante is he fought a good fight. Ang importante is we finished the game with heads high," Zamar added.
The Red Warriors are now out of Final Four contention after suffering their seventh loss of the season, but Zamar said they will have to finish the fight.
"If ever hindi makalaro si Roi, somebody has to fill in his big shoes," said Zamar.
