Pinays Amit, Ranola to challenge men at Predator 10-Ball
MANILA, Philippines – Filipino cue artists Iris Ranola and Rubilen Amit are among the women who will go against the men’s field in the 10th Annual Predator International 10-Ball Championship this month.
They will join World No. 1 Mika Immonen, American No. 1 Johnny Archer and reigning world champion Francisco “Django” Bustamante in the tournament slated from September 15 to 18.
“Rubilen and Iris can definitely make some noise at this event and it will be fun to watch," Charlie Williams, one of the top male players in the world, said in a statement.
Amit bagged the first JBET Poker.net Women's World 10-Ball Championship title last year when she beat Chinese Taipei’s Shin-Mei Liu, 10-4.
Ranola, meantime, was a 2nd placer at the 2008 US Open.
“The women have come along way in recent times, and they play a level where they can upset any top men’s player at any given moment,” added Williams.
Amit has scored an upset win over two-time world champion Ronnie Alcano in an open men’s event while Ranola prevailed over Roberto Gomez, a former runner-up at the World 9-Ball Championship.
Both female players are managed by Puyat Sports which is sponsoring them into the event.
Dozens of other players from around the world will aim to capture the Predator International 10-Ball crown at the SM City North EDSA in Quezon City.
The event is produced by Dragon Promotions and sponsored by Simonis Cloth, Min Tables, Yalin Balls, SM City North EDSA, Puyat Sports, Star Billiards. It will be broadcasted on ESPN Star Sports and Eurosport.
