MANILA, Philippines -- American boxer Andre Ward has relegated Filipino champion Manny Pacquiao from the No. 2 spot of the Sports Illustrated pound-for-pound rankings.
Following Ward’s clinical dismantling of Chad Dawson, the SI.com staff deemed it proper to put Ward at No. 2 and move Pacquiao to the No. 3 spot.
Other boxers were also affected by Ward’s ascension.
“The shake-up means Manny Pacquiao, Sergio Martinez and Nonito Donaire each drop one spot,” said the SI.com report.
Pacquiao lost the top pound-for-pound spot in the SI rankings following his lackluster performance against Juan Manuel Marquez last November.
Although the Filipino boxer was able to escape with a majority decision in that bout, he looked vulnerable against the Mexican counterpuncher.
According to Top Rank CEO Bob Arum, Pacquiao will be fighting again on December 8.
Pacquiao, however, has yet to decide on his opponent.
