MANILA - The Adamson University (AdU) Falcons finished their season with an emphatic 74-61 victory against also-ran University of the Philippines (UP) Fighting Maroons in the 72nd UAAP men’s basketball on Saturday at the Araneta Coliseum.

Rookie Eric Camson teamed up with veteran Jan Colina in a finishing kick by the Falcons, which recovered from an early eight-point deficit.

Camson scored six points early in the fourth quarter to sustain the run started by Colina in the third period.

A three-pointer by Lester Alvarez capped off a 15-0 rally by the Falcons in the second half to post their biggest lead at 66-46 just less than eight minutes remaining.

“This is a good morale booster for us going into the next season. ‘Yung mga teams lang sa itaas ang naka-sweep sa amin. Kung nanalo kami ng isa o dalawa sa itaas, nasa Final Four sana kami,” Adamson coach Leo Austria said.

Adamson ended their campaign for an identical 5-9 slate with the De La Salle University Green Archers.

But owing to their 61-55 win against the Archers in the second round, the Falcons finished at fifth and relegated the former to sixth.

The Falcons ended the second round with a 4-3 record after a woeful 1-6 mark in the first round, with five of those losses decided by five points or less.

“Magandang consolation na sa amin na mas angat kami sa La Salle. Saka gusto rin ng mga bata maglaro sa Cebu,” added Austria, who was referring to the wildcard slot for fifth and sixth places in the Philippine Collegiate Champions League (PCCL).

The fifth ranked team will play in the Cebu leg while the sixth placer will joust in the Naga leg of the PCCL’s wildcard series for a slot in the Sweet 16.

Camson wound up with a career-best 13 points on 6-of-7 shooting and added two steals in just 12 minutes off the bench.

Colina, on the other hand, got away with 12 points and 11 rebounds, while Canuday had 11 points in his last UAAP game.

The Fighting Maroons, meanwhile, duplicated their 3-11 record last season.

UP drew 13 points from Woody Co and 10 points from the grieving Arvie Braganza, who lost his father after a heart attack while watching a UP game last Monday .
