MANILA – Filipinos Donnie “Ahas” Nietes and Z “The Dream” Gorres scored wins over their opponents in the undercard of “Latin Fury XI” in Mexico Saturday (Sunday in Manila).

Nietes, the WBO minimum weight champion, successfully defended his title against interim champion Manuel Vargas of Mexico by split decision.

“Vargas pressured Nietes the entire fight and was ahead 116-112 on one card,” reported FightNews.com. “However, Nietes prevailed 118-110, 116-110 on the other two cards.”

Gorres, meantime, defeated Mexican Cruz Carbajal in a 10-round non-title fight.

“The Dream” won via technical knockout after Carbajal failed to come out for the sixth round because of a dislocated arm, FightNews.com noted.

The bouts of Nietes and Gorres were featured in the event headlined by Jason LeHoullier and Julio Cesar Chavez, Jr. held at the El Palenque de la Feria, Nayarit, Mexico.
