Family life reason for Taulava's PBA exit
MANILA, Philippines – Basketball star Asi Taulava said he has decided to take time off from the Philippine Basketball Association (PBA) for the sake of his family.
“I decided to take some time off, my wife is pregnant,” said the 6-foot-9 behemoth in ANC’s "Hardball." “I gotta be around the house more.”
The 39-year-old Taulava has been with the PBA for 13 years, but decided to take a sabbatical by signing up with San Miguel Beer in the Asean Basketball League (ABL).
Since the ABL plays less frequently, he’d be given more time to spend at home.
“I wanted to try something different, I want to play for San Miguel in the ABL and see how it feels. They play for 7 months, and I got time to relax, recover... and decide if I wanna jump back into the PBA,” he said.
If ever he decides to make his PBA return, Taulava will be again be playing for the Meralco, which continues to hold rights of first refusal to the veteran center in the PBA.
