Forrest reclaims WBC super welter belt from Mora

Vernon "The Viper" Forrest succeeded in taking back the World Boxing Council super welterweight belt from Sergio "The Latin Snake" Mora in their 12-round clash Saturday (Sunday in Manila) at the MGM Grand Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas.

All three ringside judges scored the bout in favor of the Atlanta, Georgia native. Judges had it 118-109, 117-110 and 119-108 for Forrest, who lost the title to Mora of Los Angeles, California during their June 7 outing.

Forrest now has a 41-3 win-loss record with 29 knockout victories. Mora, on the other hand, suffered his first loss in 22 fights. He has five KO wins.

The Forrest-Mora clash was the co-main event of "The Challenge" fight card featuring Ring Magazine world lightweight king Joel Casamayor in his defense against Juan Manuel Marquez.

Earlier, "Vicious" Victor Ortiz won the vacant North American Boxing Organization junior welterweight crown after stopping Roberto Arrieta of La Pampa, Argentina, in the fifth round of their 10-round fight .

The referee declared Ortiz, who fights out of Oxnard, California, the winner as he demolished Arrieta with a 1-2 combination at 2:25 in Round 5.

Ortiz threw a total of 237 punches and landed 61. Arrieta, meanwhile had a 23/141 punch percentage.

The win brought Ortiz's record to 22-1 with 16 victories by way of knockout. Arrieta, meanwhile, dropped to 30-14 with 13 KOs.

In the preceding undercard clash, Julio "Baby Face Garcia lost to Danny Perez in their 10-round fight.

The three ringside judges saw it 100-90, 99-91 and 97-93, all in favor of Peresz, who improved his record to 34-5, with 17 victories by KO.

Garcia, on the other hand, now has 41-5 with 35 KO wins.

Perez fired 830 punches and landed 275 for a 33-percent effectivity. Garcia, meanwhile, had 85/545 for a 16-percent average.
