GSP seeks stoppage vs Condit
MANILA, Philippines – Mixed martial arts (MMA) champion Georges St.-Pierre wants to silence his critics via a stoppage win against Carlos Condit.
St.-Pierre, known to fans as “GSP,” hasn’t won by stoppage since his technical knockout win against BJ Penn in 2009 prompting critics to question his ability to finish fights.
"I want to finish because of the criticism," the Canadian fighter said in MMA Fighting.
St.-Pierre has recuperated from injury and will face interim welterweight champion Condit on November 17 at the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) 154.
St.-Pierre said what his critics failed to see is the quality of opponents he has been facing lately.
He said that at his level, his opponents have been highly competitive, making it harder for him to knockout or submit his opponent.
"I can make up a bunch of excuses, but the truth is I'm fighting the best guys all the time and it's tough competition. ... I'm working a lot more on being more opportunistic and it's going to pay off, I'm sure."
