Lions mangle Generals to take NCAA lead
MANILA, Philippines – San Beda College took control of the second half to quell Emilio Aguinaldo College for a 71-64 win in the 89th NCAA men’s basketball tournament.
Art de la Cruz had 16 points for the Red Lions, which also got double figures from three of their players.
Baser Amer scored 15 for San Beda, which claimed the top spot in the standings with a 10-2 win-loss slate. Ryusei Koga and Ola Adeogun combined for 25 points.
San Beda trailed by three points in the first half when the Generals erected a 33-31 halftime lead.
But the Red Lions established control in the third canto, blasting the Generals with a 58-46 lead. San Beda never looked back since.
Cedric Happi finished with 17 points for lead EAC, which dropped to 5-7.
In the other game, San Sebastian hammered out a 72-63 win over a resurgent Mapua to maintain its grip on fourth place.
CJ Perez scored 19 points for the Stags to go with his 11 rebounds and 4 assists.
