Belfort wants to set history by beating Jones
MANILA, Philippines – Vitor “The Phenom” Belfort wants to achieve a first when he battles Jon Jones whom he labeled as "one of the best fighters in history."
Belfort is seeking to be the first to actually defeat Jones, the reigning Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) light heavyweight champion.
"Jon Jones is one of the best fighters in history and I'm so glad I get to fight him," the Brazilian banger said in ESPN. "I'm going to put my name in history.”
Jones’ has been practically unbeaten in 17 fights. His lone defeat came by way of disqualification due to illegal strikes.
The 35-year-old Belfort will be coming in as a huge underdog against the much younger Jones.
But Belfort claims he actually performs better whenever he assumes the role of an underdog.
"Nobody expects anything. That's when it's most exciting. Will overcomes skill. My goal is to go out there and stop everything he throws," he said.
Belfort and Jones will slug it out in the main event of UFC 152, which takes place on September 22.
