Analyst sees Pacman-Floyd 'mega-fight'
MANILA -- ESPN’s resident boxing analyst Teddy Atlas said that he agrees with most fight fans on the choice of the fighter that Floyd Mayweather, Jr. should face next.
“The same guy that you would want to see, the whole public wants to see: Manny Pacquiao,” said Atlas, a highly respected boxing trainer who coached heavyweight boxer Michael Moorer, in ESPN.com.
Atlas made the comment shortly after seeing Mayweather’s “masterful” performance over Pacquiao’s nemesis and Number 2 pound-for-pound fighter Juan Manuel Marquez.
But before Pacquiao could set a match up with Mayweather, he would still have to dispose of World Boxing Organization welterweight champion Miguel Cotto on November 14.
“I think he will [get past Cotto],” said Atlas. “Then it's gonna be a mega fight... It's gonna be Mayweather ‘the Money man’ against the Pacman.”
Mayweather, however, is playing safe from answering questions about a possible match up with the Philippines’ beloved boxer.
"Pacquiao is going to face Miguel Cotto and may the best man win," he said during the post-fight press conference after the Marquez bout.
Pacman kicks off Baguio training
Pacquiao, meanwhile, entered his training camp in Baguio on Sunday to focus on his much-awaited blockbuster bout against Cotto.
"I need to focus," said the "Pacman" as he checked into his hotel in Baguio, having cleared his busy schedule for product endorsements and television shows.
He said his wife and mother would not be allowed into his training quarters.
The 30-year-old Filipino's American trainer Freddie Roach was expected to arrive in Baguio over the next few days.
"This place is ideal. My training runs would be intense," Pacquiao said. "Also, it's not too crowded."
He said his trainers have devised a plan to counter the Puerto Rican's superior size, but gave no details.
Filipino trainer Buboy Fernandez asked Filipinos to give his man some space as the left-handed boxer trains outside the glare of the public eye.
"We ask for the people's prayers," he said. "We will try our best to help Manny win." With a report from Agence France-Presse

the bottom line...
Mayweather proved nothing in his fight with Marquez. The reason is that he fought a battle-depreciated champion with a two-pound weight handicap. It is worthy to note that Mayweather, "it took him two rounds to warm up (obviously flaunting again).” When he finally fight Pacquiao, I assure you, there would be no time to warm up! Consider this point of reference, Pacman fought Marquez twice and knocked him down in both occasions.
The truth of the matter is that, the two-year temporary retirement of Mayweather is a very clever plan of escape. When Mayweather retired, Pacman was not yet as good and as famous as he is today and during that time Mayweather ran out of not-so-worthy opponents. So, he ran out of reasons to evade worthy opponents in his class such as Shane Mosley, Miguel Cotto, and Margarito. Therefore, his last and best option is to cower in fear by retiring.
Mosley's challenge to Mayweather was not a disrespect. It's was his way of showing that Mayweather is a fraud! If only to vindicate his name, Mayweather should accept the challenge before fighting Pacman. He should take risks and fight Mosley first before fighting Pacman to finally prove that he is not a man of words but of deeds. And that’s the bottom line.
