Ateneo eases its way to UAAP finals
MANILA -- The Ateneo Blue Eagles easily advanced to the finals by beating the hapless University of Sto. Tomas Tigers, 81-64, on Sunday’s Final Four action in the 72nd UAAP men’s basketball.
Jai Reyes led the Eagles with 17 points, 8 rebounds and 3 assists as Ateneo handily disposed fourth ranked UST.
Fellow Ateneans Ryan Buenafe and Eric Salamat also chipped in 15 and 6 points, respectively, putting the Eagles comfortably ahead of the Tigers.
Ateneo enjoyed a twice-to-beat advantage owing to their first seeding in the Final Four. Their latest victory therefore sent them straight to the UAAP finals.
The Eagles now would have to wait for the winner on Thursday’s rubber match between the Far Eastern University Tamaraws and the University of the East Red Warriors.
The Warriors have defeated the Tamaraws on Paul Lee's killer triples, 84-74, during Saturday's Final Four game.
