MANILA -- Indonesian Chris John retained his World Boxing Association (WBA) featherweight title by outpointing Mexican-American Rocky Juarez in the undercard of the “Number One vs Numero Uno: Mayweather-Marquez” on Saturday (Sunday in the Philippines) at the MGM Grand Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada.

The WBA champion came out victorious by outboxing Juarez from the outside.

Accoriding to FightHype.com, the scores were 114-113, 119-109, 117-111 all in favor of John.

It was a disappointing outcome for Juarez, who fought John to a controversial draw on February 28, 2009 in his hometown of Houston.

With the loss, Juarez dropped to 28-5-1 while John improved to 43-0-2.

Katsidis, Lock score wins
Michael Kastidis beat lightweight contender Vicente Escobedo by split decision to win the interim World Boxing Organization title.

Judges saw it 116-113, 118-110 for Katsidis and 115-112 for Escobedo.

The hard-punching Australian bullied Escobedo for most part of the 12-round fight after suffering a cut in the first round.

Katsidis, who defeated Filipino Czar Amonsot in 2007, improved to 26-2 while Escobedo went down with 21-2.

Featherweight Cornelius Lock knocked out erstwhile unbeaten Orlando Cruz in round five to take home the vacant North American Boxing Organization belt.

Lock decked Cruz in the first round and finished him at 2:08 of the fifth with a right uppercut. With the win, Lock improved to 19-4-1. Cruz fell to 16-1-1.

ABS-CBN is currently airing "Number 1 vs Numero Uno" on Channel 2.
