Mayweather wins decision over Marquez

MANILA -- Former pound-for-pound champion Floyd Mayweather, Jr. outclassed Mexican Juan Manuel Marquez in their "Number One vs Numero Uno" showdown at the MGM Grand Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada on Saturday (Sunday in the Philippines).

Judges saw it 118-109, 120-107 and 119-108 all in favor of the unbeaten Mayweather, who knocked down the tough Mexican with a left hook to the head.

Mayweather, who has temporarily retired for two years, showed no hint of ring rust as he out-punched Marquez all through out the fight.

"I've been off two years... he's tough. He's tough as nails," Mayweather said in a report posted on FightHype.com.

The Mexican tried pressuring the former pound-for-pound king with multiple combinations but Mayweather is just too fast for Marquez.

Marquez had success in landing blows on Mayweather in the fourth round and he suffered a small cut in the process.

Mayweather pressed the action in Rounds 9 and 10, punishing the Mexican with ripping punches. Marquez, however, continued his valiant stand as he tried matching his opponent blow by blow.

The durable Mexican remained standing in Rounds 11 and 12, weathering Mayweather's furious attacks. Marquez, however, came short on points.

Compubox statistics showed Mayweather landing 290 punches out of 493, a far cry from Marquez's 69 out of 583.

Mayweather also landed 105 power punches out of 177 while the Mexican champion only connected with 48 out of 295.

The decision has given Mayweather his 40th career win. Marquez, on the other hand, absorbed his fifth loss in 56 fights.

The fight also saw Mayweather using his size to dominate the smaller Marquez. Mayweather came in at 146 pounds on Friday's official weigh-in. The Mexican tipped the scales at 142 in the fight described as a welterweight bout with a catch weight limit of 144 pounds.

"I don't want to make excuses, but the weight was the problem," he said in a report on ESPN.com. "He's too fast. When I hit him he would laugh but I knew he felt my punches. We tried to work the speed but the difference was the weight. If I had three or four fights at this weight, I would do better. I did the best that I could do."

The MGM Grand Garden Arena was filled to capacity, with celebrities as Sean “Diddy” Combs, George Lopez, and California Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger in attendance to see the fight. With a report from Bev Llorente, ABS-CBN North America News Bureau

Pacquio will go down if he does not take this seriously

Pacquiao, who is the current pound for pound king, would go down if he does not take this seriously. Look at how Mayweather demolished
Marquez. He's over confident to take out Mayweather. The best thing he can do is concentrate on what he can do best...boxing!! Stay away from politics...You could only do worse.. If you wanna help..Go build a school or something..This country has been run by corrupt and useless politicians.. Do not add up to the list.. And please.. you cannot act...so stop acting.. And you cannot sing.. so stop singing..
you're wasting money instead of sharing them to the poor "if you really wished to help". For your sake..

It should a wake-up call for Pacquiao

If Pacquiao is to prepare to fight Mayweather, as irresponsibly lazy as he is preparing for Cotto now, he will lose (while Cotto has been hard in training for weeks, Pacquiao is busy with his elections and showbusiness nonsense).
Somebody should tell Pacquiao that he is a very bad singer, a very bad actor, and a very bad politician wannabe (as demonstrated by the people who know him best- those in General Santos city). But then again, no matter what you tell him- someone so stupid cannot even notice he is dumb.

Boxing is a sport that you

Boxing is a sport that you need full focus. Pacman must not under estimate his foe, Cotto now and others in the future. Cotto's been training for sometime now for this fight with Pacman, while Pacman is doing a lot of other things, TV, movie and politics. Just an unsolicitate advice to Pacman - you can not serve many masters at the same time, focus on one only - boxing and do the others when you retire.

Mayweather proved nothing...

5

Mayweather proved nothing and that's the bottom line. The reason is that he fought a battle-depreciated champion with a two-pound weight edge. Siya na rin ang nagsabi na, "it took him two rounds to warm up. Kay Pacman, tiyak wala siyang panahong mag-warm up!" Maliban dito, dalawang beses ng nilampaso ni Pacman si Marquez at parehong pinabagsak sa dalawang laban nila.

The truth of the matter is that, the two-year temporary retirement of Mayweather is a very clever escape. When Mayweather retired when Pacman was not yet as good and as famous as he is today and during that time naubusan na si Mayweather ng mga maliliit na kalaban. Kaya naubusan na siya ng dahilan para iwasan ang hamon ng mga karapatdapat na boksingero (in his class) kagaya nina Shane Mosley, Miguel Cotto at Margarito. THEREFORE, HIS LAST AND BEST OPTION WAS TO COWER IN FEAR AND RETIRE. ISN'T IT TRUE MAYWEATHER??? THAT'S WHY HE'S NOT A POUND FOR POUND CHAMPION. HE'S MONICKER SHOULD BE A PROUD FRAUD HAS-BEEN!!!

Mosley's challenge to Mayweather is not a disrespect. It's his way of showing that Mayweather is a fraud! Kung hindi, Mayweather should accept the challenge before fighting Pacman. Mayweather should take risks and fight Mosley first before fighting Pacman to finally prove that he is worthy of fighting Pacman.

Unsolicited advice:

If Pacman would beat Cotto and the fight between him and Mayweather would push through, the financial conditions should be 70-30 in favor of Manny Pacquiao and the penalty for excess weight provided in the Mayweather-Marquez fight should be included in the contract. In fact, Mosley is willing to accept this condition just to fight Manny Paquiao so there's no reason why Mayweather should ask for more. If he demands more, Mayweather should follow my advice.

sarap !!

Sarap naman ng manalo sa pustahan, hay buhay pag sinuswerte talaga, lalapit at lalapit syo, hehehehehehe

UPDATE.

ms diane panalo pala tayo ng ice cream from papa golden boy. Mali pala ako, tayo pla panalo. Piliin mo yong mahal na ice cream dyan sa LV. It's now a 50% chance PACMAN & PBF - "THE FINAL VERDICT" PACMAN WILL EAT MAYWEATHERS HEART AND SPIT IT OUT TO HIS BAD-MOUTHED SR.
But pls Manny, let your training be training for the 30 million dollars fight. Which is better politics or Billion Pesos.
Forget all those power hungry mentality to sustain your image as a
god-fearing ondividual....Politics is a synonyms to Power
Abuse and Corruption.
