Chavez tests positive for banned substance
MANILA, Philippines – Former middleweight titleholder Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. tested positive for a banned substance following his loss to Argentina’s Sergio Martinez last Saturday.
Chavez’s promoter, Top Rank, confirmed the positive test. Multiple reports say the banned substance was marijuana.
The positive test is the second for Chavez in Nevada.
In 2009, Chavez tested positive for a diuretic that helps with weight loss.
The Mexican prodigy lost via unanimous decision to Martinez in their much-hyped clash last weekend, despite nearly pulling off a miracle when he knocked down the Argentinian in the final round. – ANC.
