PH battles Hungary in World Cup of Pool quarters
MANILA, Philippines – The Philippines and Hungary face off in a quarter-final match-up to determine who will take one of the four semi-final spots in the 888.com World Cup of Pool being held at the York Hall in London.
Dennis Orcollo and Lee Vann Corteza carried the fight for the Filipino cue artists by posting a 7-3 win against the Singaporean pair of Chang Keng Kwan and Aloysius Yapp in the round of 16.
They will then take on Hungary’s Balazs Mikos and Gabor Solymosi in the quarter-final. The Hungarians defeated Russia’s Konstatin Stepanov and Ruslan Chinakhov, 7-4, in their own best-of-16 showdown.
In other quarter-final matches, Finland will take on England B; Holland will take on Japan; and Chinese Taipei will take on England A.
The winning team will receive $60,000 out of a total purse of $250,000. -- By Marlon Bernardino
