Ginebra, Talk 'N Text battle for last q'finals slot
MANILA, Philippines – After getting an extra day to prepare, Barangay Ginebra and Talk 'N Text will tussle for the last spot in the quarterfinals of the 2013 PBA Governors Cup in their do-or-die game tonight at the Araneta Coliseum.
Talk 'N Text forced the do-or-die game after beating Ginebra, 113-99, last Sunday in their last game of the elimination round.
The game was originally scheduled for Monday, but was postponed due to bad weather and floods.
Jimmy Alapag was vital in the Texters’ victory last Sunday, firing three triples as TNT won for the first time in six games.
“The guys willed themselves to victory,” TNT coach Norman Black said after the game.
Import Courtney Fells nailed his first win as a Talk 'N Text import after scoring 26 points to go along with five rebounds and two assists.
Alapag drilled three consecutive three-pointers just as Ginebra was trying to make a rally, and his outside sniping allowed the Texters to gain a double-digit lead, 107-95.
Talk 'N Text thus earned a chance to make it to the playoffs for the 11th consecutive conference. Ginebra, meanwhile, is trying to make it to the playoffs for the 19th consecutive time.
The winner of the playoff will meet the top-seeded Petron Blaze Boosters in the quarterfinals, with Petron having to win only once to advance to the semi-finals.
