MANILA, Philippines – World superbantamweight champion Nonito “The Filipino Flash” Donaire is expecting another close affair when rivals Manny “Pacman” Pacquiao and Juan Manuel Marquez meet for the fourth time on December 8 in Las Vegas.

In an interview with Boxing Scene, Donaire said whoever wins the fourth fight convincingly “is most likely the better fighter overall.”

All of Pacquiao and Marquez’s three previous bouts ended in controversial decisions, and both fighters have promised that their fourth meeting will provide a more decisive result.

But Donaire said he is expecting another close battle.

“Both fighters know each other well,” he pointed out. “It might look to be the same type of fight to me. Unless somebody has a different idea heading into this fight, I think it’s going to be a close fight.”

While Donaire believes that Pacquiao has won majority of the 36 rounds against Marquez so far, he admitted that his countryman has “slow(ed) down a little bit.”

Moreover, “Marquez already has his number,” Donaire said.

Still, “The Filipino Flash” expects Pacquiao to be more inspired going into the December 8 clash and believes the former pound-for-pound king still has what it takes to convincingly defeat Marquez.

“I’m always going to go with somebody who has that advantage. And I think that Manny, who has speed and power, and if he can push it, I think that he’s going to win the fight,” Donaire said.

“I think that if Manny can bring in his speed and be smart about it like he has in the beginning, just that sheer, raw talent that he has, that raw energy that he has, I think that he can overwhelm Marquez,” he added.

Donaire is preparing for a unification fight of his own, as he is set to take on Japanese legend Toshiaki Nishioka on October 13 at the Home Depot Center in California.
