Team Pacquiao prepares for Marquez's 'dirty tactics'
MANILA, Philippines – The camp of Manny Pacquiao said it will find ways to nullify what is perceived as Juan Manuel Marquez’s “dirty tactics.”
Buboy Fernandez said one of the things they have to watch out for are Marquez’s foot stomps.
“Maraming ginawa ni Marquez na dirty tricks [tulad] 'yung inaapakan 'yung paa n'ya, ‘yun ang kailangan naming resolbahin,” said Pacquiao’s best friend and long time co-trainer.
The “foot stomp” is an old ploy used to stop a boxer in his tracks during a fight.
This prevents a boxer from stepping forward when he is attacking his opponent.
This also hampers a boxer from stepping away when he is defending himself from his opponent.
During their third encounter last November, Marquez was seen stepping on Pacquiao’s foot at least 5 times.
Marquez has made Pacquiao looked vulnerable in that bout. Fortunately, the Filipino boxer was able to pull off a win by decision.
“Magaling si Marquez na counterpuncher kaya hindi tayo dapat magkumpyansa. Kelangan nating maging mabilis,” said Pacquiao.
(Marquez is a very good counter puncher so we should avoid being overconfident. We need to maintain our speed).
Pacquiao has already started light training at the oval track of the General Santos City Sports Complex.
He will fly to Los Angeles for the bulk of his training in the first week of October.
