Ariza doing great job with Rios, says trainer
MANILA, Philippines – Boxing coach Robert Garcia said everything is working well between his boxer Brandon “Bam Bam” Rios and their newly hired conditioning expert Alex Ariza.
Ariza, who had a falling out with Manny Pacquiao’s camp, is currently helping Rios get in shape for his November 24 fight against the Filipino superstar.
“Ariza is a help. They do everything he asks them to do in the morning. They are very good exercises and he [Ariza] is doing a great job,” Garcia said in Ronnie Nathanielsz’s Boxing Scene report.
The Colombian strength and conditioning coach, who was instrumental in Pacquiao’s victories over bigger fighters like Ricky Hatton, Miguel Cotto and Oscar de la Hoya, is now using his conditioning techniques to whip Rios up to shape.
Rios has had troubles making the 135-pound limit in the past and was even stripped of his WBA lightweight crown for failing to make weight.
Through Ariza’s help, Rios is expected to be become a more explosive fighter when he faces Pacquiao at welterweight.
