San Beda forces OT win vs Perpetual, gets Final 4 seat
MANILA – San Beda College survived Perpetual Help's end-game rally and won in overtime, 78-76, in the NCAA men’s basketball tournament on Thursday.
With the victory, the defending champion got hold of one of the four tickets to the NCAA semifinals.
The Atlas unleashed a fiery 30-9 run capped by Nosa Omorogbe’s triple that forced the game extension against the Red Lions.
But San Beda came through in overtime, outshooting Perpetual 10 points to 8.
Rome dela Rosa and Art de la Cruz sealed the Lions’ victory via an alley-oop in the dying seconds.
Baser Amer top-scored for San Beda with 21 points, while Dela Cruz and Dela Rosa had 16 and 12, respectively.
The Red Lions improved their record to 12 wins against 2 defeats to stay at the top of the standings.
The Altas fell to 11-4.
In the other game, Emilio Aguinaldo College(EAC) held off Lyceum, 71-63, to boost its playoffs bid.
Jolas Paguia scored 9 of his 18 points in the final quarter, when the Generals managed to break the Pirates’ press.
Jorem Morada added 21 points to help EAC improve its record to 7-7.
