'Bazooka' says he'll make weight for Pinoy Pride XVII
MANILA, Philippines – Filipino bantamweight contender AJ “Bazooka” Banal said his training for his world title shot on October 20 is going well.
Banal, who faces Thai veteran Pungluang Sor Singyu in the main event of Pinoy Pride XVII, said his weight is on schedule.
“I am in good shape and ready to fight.” The 23-year-old Cebuano said in Philboxing. “I now weigh nine to ten pounds above the limit, I will have no problem making the weight.”
Banal has a shot at the World Boxing Organization (WBO) bantamweight title in his fight against the dangerous Sor Singyu.
Also fighting in Pinoy Pride XVII are Rey “BoomBoom” Bautista, Jason “El Niño” Pagara and Michael “Bruce Lee” Domingo.
Bautista will battle Mexico’s Daniel Ruiz for the vacant WBO International featherweight.
Pagara will defend his WBO International junior welterweight title against Miguel “Hands of Stone” Antoine of Barbados.
Domingo will fight Ugandan Mudde Ntambe Rabison in a non-title bout.
