MANILA, Philippines – De La Salle’s Jeron Teng admitted he was disgusted after seeing the footage of FEU’s Terrence Romeo trying to ruin his focus during their Final Four game last Wednesday.
The video posted by @believelasalle on Instagram showed Romeo rubbing his sweat into Teng’s right hand while the latter was preparing to make his free throws in the third quarter.
“Nakita ko nga 'yun. Siyempre napangiwi rin ako. Kaso hindi naman ako totally nandiri, sanayan na 'yan. Lagi namang ginagawa ni Terrence 'yun,” said Teng in an interview with Spin.ph’s Snow Badua.
“Hindi ko nga alam kung pawis 'yun, parang dura pa nga eh,” added Teng. “Pero hindi na rin ako nagalit or what, sinumbong ko na lang siya sa referees kasi pa-finals na kami eh!”
Romeo’s tactic, however, did not work as the Archers managed to hold on to its lead and defeat FEU, 71-68, to advance to the UAAP Finals.
The loss ruined Romeo’s Most Valuable Player title win as he failed to steer the Tamaraws to the championship round.
Romeo’s antic sparked negative reactions from the social media.
“GROSS,” said @jazlynariola.
“Jologs!!!” said @mow17.
Some claimed that Romeo’s tactic even helped La Salle to win.
“hahaha pampabwenas daw eh! kita mo nanalo la salle hehe @mikkaelalcantara @ibotanist,” said @jam_2qt4u.
But Teng clarified that he didn't consider Romeo to be a bad guy.
“Si Terrence, mabait naman 'yan off the court. Siguro gusto lang niya akong pikunin o sirain ang laro. Kaso hindi ako papayag ng ganun. Focused ako.”
La Salle will face either the top-seeded National University Bulldogs or the University of Santo Tomas Growling Tigers in the Finals.
The Bulldogs and the Tigers will contest the remaining Finals berth on Saturday at the MOA Arena.
