Azkals' Etheridge on loan at Bristol Rovers
LONDON – While the Azkals are strutting their stuff in the 2012 Philippine Football Peace Cup, the nation's first choice goalkeeper is currently gaining valuable experience at Bristol Rovers FC.
Neil Etheridge joined the League Two outfit on a month-long deal from English Premier League (EPL) side Fulham FC.
The 22-year-old made his professional league debut last weekend, September 22, in a goalless draw against Fleetwood Town.
The British-Pinoy is set to play his second game later on September 29 away against Exeter City FC.
Although an Azkal regular with 37 caps, Etheridge is third-choice goalkeeper at Fulham behind Mark Schwarzer and David Stockdale.
The last time Etheridge featured was on December 14 in Fulham's Europa League clash against Denmark's Odense BK.
He sees the loan move to Bristol Rovers as an opportunity to impress and gain playing time.
Etheridge recently told The Bristol Post: "I'm looking forward to doing well in my month here and, hopefully, extending the loan.
"The move came as a bit of a surprise, but I've always been looking to get myself out on loan to gain experience and play football."
Bristol Rovers' match against Exeter City kicks off at 3 p.m. (GMT) at St. James Park.
