MANILA, Philippines – The University of Sto. Tomas (UST) Growling Tigers held a 38-34 half-time lead over the National University (NU) Bulldogs in their semi-finals face-off in the UAAP men’s basketball on Saturday.
Cameroonian Karim Abdul helped the Tigers post an 11-6 lead over the Bulldogs midway in the first quarter.
NU fought back, capped by Lee Dennice Villamor’s three-pointer, which pushed the Bulldogs ahead 18-17.
The lead swung back and fourth between the two teams until Abdul's three-point play that put UST ahead, 27-24.
Kevin Ferrer’s successive baskets hiked the Tigers’ advantage to 32-26.
But the Bulldogs were able to recover to trim down the deficit to 4 points, 38-34.
UST has a twice-to-beat advantage over NU, which means the Tigers need to win only once to secure a Finals seat.
