Pinoy GMs tied for second in HK chess
MANILA, Philippines – Fide Master (FM) Hamed Nouri of the Philippines defeated FM Kaifeng Yu of China in the fourth round to create a five-way tie for second place in the 2013 Hong Kong International Open Chess Championships at the University of Hong Kong.
With his victory, Nouri tallied 3.5 points, the same output of FM Deniel Causo and National Master (NM) Role Abelgas of the Philippines, as well as Mohammad Agus Kurniawan of Indonesia and Li of China.
Top seeded International Master Marcos Llaneza of Vega of Spain defeated Daniel Lam of Hong Kong to remain in first place with four points.
Other Filipinos competing in the competition are: NM Nelson Villanueva and FM Marie Antoinette San Diego, as well as seven-year-old FM Alekhine Nouri. -- By Marlon Bernardino
