Demosthenes "Plong-Plong" Pulpul barged into the Round of 64 of the World Ten Ball Championship Tuesday and joined two other Filipinos already in the second stage of the seven-day event at the Philippine International Convention Center.
Pulpul defeated Taiwan's Yang Ching-Shun, 9-5. He now joins two other Filipinos - Malon Manalo and Victor Arpilleda -- in the inaugural 10 Ball event sanctioned by the World Pool-Biiliard Association.
In earlier matches, "Marvelous" Manalo made a short work on Italian cue master Fabio Petroni.
Manalo eased to the Last 64 by routing Petroni, 9-1. He also beat Teo Chee Soon of Brunei in the opening round.
Manalo, who represented the Philippines in the Asian and Southeast Asian Games, said he is bent on winning the inaugural tournament.
"It will be the sweetest [win] if it happens," he said.
Meanwhile, Victor Arpilleda beat his South Korean foe, King Woong-Dae, 9-5.
Arpilleda earlier beat Kuo Pin-Wang of Brunei before reaching the winner’s qualification round.
The inaugural world event has a total prize money of $400,000 with $100,000 going to the top winner. With reports from Roy Medina and Dennis Gasgonia, abs-cbnNEWS.com
