MANILA -- Undefeated Drian Francisco easily made the 115-pound weight limit for his 12-round “First Strike” clash with Panamanian champion Roberto "La Arana" Vasquez on Saturday.
According to PhilBoxing.com Francisco came in at exactly 115 pounds during the official weigh-in held at the Manila Ocean Park.
Vasquez, on the other hand, initially tipped the scales at 116.5 pounds, 1.5 pounds over the limit. The Panamanian was allowed to shed off the weight for another try on the scales.
Francisco, dubbed as “Gintong Kamao” (Golden Fist), will be slugging it out with Vasquez at the Cuneta astrodome in Pasay City for the World Boxing Association (WBA) International super flyweight title.
“Mabigat ang kalaban kasi ekspiryensyado,” Francisco (17-0-1, 13 knockouts) earlier said.
Vasquez, who has already compiled 27 wins (20 KOs) and 3 losses, is the current WBA interim flyweight champ. He increased weight to face Francisco.
Also included in the “First Strike” card are the featherweight match between Michael Farenas and Korean Jong Ang Baek; the minimum weight clash between Milan Melindo and Mexican Guadalupe Martinez; and the bantamweight bout between Michael Domingo and US Olympian Jose Navarro.
