UST leading after 2 quarters
MANILA, Philippines -- University of Sto. Tomas (UST) is enjoying a 38-31 halftime lead against De La Salle University (DLSU) in Game 1 of their best-of-three UAAP men's basketball finals duel.
UST took an early 8-2 lead in the first quarter as Karim Abdul made his presence felt inside the paint.
The Tigers hiked it to 16 points until Jeron Teng forced a layup midway the quarter to trim the Archers' deficit to 4-18.
La Salle's incursion was cut short when Kevin Ferrer began connecting from three-point territory to give UST a 23-10 cushion.
LA Revilla pulled off a triple of his own to close the first quarter, 23-13.
But La Salle started out strong in the second quarter, blasting UST with a 12-2 run that wiped out the Tigers' advantage, 25-all.
Jeric Teng found his range and pushed the Tigers ahead 32-27, 4:20 in the second quarter.
UST was already up by seven by the end of the half.
