San Mig Coffee gains 2-1 edge vs Meralco
MANILA, Philippines – San Mig Coffee staged a furious fourth quarter rally to defeat Meralco, 94-87, in Game 3 of their best-of-5 semifinal series in the PBA Governors' Cup.
Alex Mallari tallied 23 points on 9-of-13 field goal shooting as the Mixers moved one win closer to the PBA Governors' Cup Finals.
San Mig Coffee also got plenty of help from Marqus Blakely and Mark Barroca who scored 21 and 18 points, respectively.
Mallari reeled off 7 points in the last three minutes that raised the Mixers' one-point advantage into an 84-79 lead. Barroca scored four more points to wrap things up for San Mig Coffee.
The Mixers pounced on the absence of the Bolts’ import Mario West, who was forced out of the game after injuring his right shoulder in the third quarter.
Without West, Meralco was forced to rely on its locals. Mike Cortez topscored for the Bolts with 15 markers, while John Wilson added 13.
San Mig Coffee is expected to go for the kill on Sunday when they meet Meralco again in Game 4.
