Pacquiao allots 10-week preps for Marquez fight
MANILA, Philippines – Fighting Congressman Manny Pacquiao said he is allotting a total of 10 weeks of preparations for his fourth face-off against Juan Manuel Marquez.
The eight-division champion told Philboxing’s Eddie Alinea that he will be first spending two weeks of training in General Santos City before heading to Los Angeles for the remaining eight.
"Napagkaisahan namin na i-advance ang camp dito sa Gensan at hindi sa Baguio ng dalawang linggo ‘di gaya noong una na walong linggo. Ngayon 10 linggo ang preparasyong gagawin namin," Pacquiao said.
(We have agreed to open our camp here in Gensan and not in Baguio for two weeks. Unlike before when we spent eight weeks in training, we’ll have 10 weeks of preparations).
Pacquiao said he has already begun his exercises in General Santos.
The Filipino boxer took a break for four months after his controversial loss to Timothy Bradley last June.
He said he needs to regain his stamina before he begins the tough grind at Freddie Roach’s Wild Card Gym in Los Angeles.
"The main camp, of course is the Wild Card Gym in Los Angeles. It is there where we will decide what kind of victory we’ll do at the fight,” said Pacquiao.
"Madugo yun kaya bago pa lamang dumating sa Amerika, sisiguruhin namin na handa na ang katawan ko sa hirap na dadanasin ko (The training will be tough so I’m making sure that before I arrive in America, my body will be prepared for punishment)."
