San Mig aims to clinch Finals spot
MANILA, Philippines – The San Mig Coffee Mixers aim to clinch a spot in the PBA Governors Cup Finals as they take on the Meralco Bolts in Game Four of their semi-final showdown Sunday night at the Araneta Coliseum.
San Mig had seized a 2-1 lead in the best-of-five series after beating Meralco, 94-87, in Game 3 last Friday, in a game that saw Bolts import Mario West go down due to an injury late in the contest.
“We don’t want to go to a Game Five, so we’re gonna go all out to win Game 4,” San Mig coach Tim Cone said in a PBA.ph report.
“We have so much respect for Meralco’s game to want to face them in a knockout game,” he added. “Too many things can happen in that kind of scenario, so we’re hoping our guys can really get focused and close out the series.”
West is doubtful to play for Game 4, although Meralco coach Ryan Gregorio is not yet giving up hope.
“We are ready whatever the situation is. Hopefully, we can play,” he said. “Admittedly, it is hard to win without Mario.”
If the Coffee Mixers win on Sunday night, it will be Cone’s third finals with the club and 26th overall.
