Alaska CEO joins Ironman for charity
MANILA – Alaska Milk Corporation CEO Wilfred Steven Uytengsu plans to race in the Ford Ironman World Championship in Kona, Hawaii on Oct. 10 for the benefit of underprivileged Filipino children.
“I will contribute an hour of my salary for every hour it takes me to complete the entire distance,” he said in a letter posted on the Triathlon Association of the Philippines (TRAP) website. (http://triathlon.org.ph/)
Uytengsu said his contributions will be given to Children’s Hour Philippines.
The 48-year-old business owner and triathlete saif he will swim 4 kilometers, bike 180 km, and run 42.2 km.
His personal best time is 13 hours, 12 minutes.
Uytengsu was the chairman of the 1st Cobra Energy Drink Ironman 70.3 Philippines held last Aug. 23 at the Camarines Sur Watersports Complex (CWC).
The inaugural Ironman circuit in the Philippines drew a total of nine international or professional triathletes, 400 age groupers and 50 relay teams from 23 different nations.
The Ironman is regarded as triathlon’s “Super Bowl, Wimbledon, World Series, World Cup, and Tour de France all rolled into one.”
