COLORADO SPRINGS, Colorado – Details on specific products in the marketplace and possible banned substances within them will be available to US, Canadian and British athletes under a new partnership unveiled Tuesday.

The United States Anti-Doping Agency (USADA), UK Sport and the Canadian Centre for Ethics in Sport launched the Global Drug Reference Online to provide athletes and their aides with information about specific banned substances.

The directory is updated according to the World Anti-Doping Agency list to include new products and allow for adjustments in status or ingredients with all date verified by pharmacists experienced in anti-doping.

"A key element in supporting clean athletes with understanding and complying with the prohibited list is to provide resources on the ingredients and brands of medications they might encounter," said USADA chief executive Travis T. Tygart.

Andy Parkinson, UK Sport's director of drug-free sport, was excited to have an enhanced version of their own database.

"It is fantastic that Global DRO has been launched and I am delighted that athletes across the UK can now access this resource," he said. "It is of paramount importance that they have such information at their disposal."

Paul Melia, chief executive of the Canadian group, saw the material as vital to making certain athletes do not accidentally ingest a substance that would create a positive result.

"It's another example of international cooperation toward our common goal of protecting athletes' rights to drug-free sport," he said. "Athletes and physicians will both benefit from this new substance inquiry service."
