LBC Ronda Pilipinas 2013 elims slated

MANILA, Philippines - The LBC Ronda Pilipinas, the country's biggest, richest race on wheels, hits the road Jan. 12-Feb. 1, 2013, offering P7.5 million in total cash prizes, with the individual and team champions earning P1 million each.

Organizers of the event, staged by the LBC Express Inc., the country’s leading courier firm, said the eliminations will be held Oct. 27-28 in Tarlac, Tarlac to select 93 of 96 riders from an expected field of over 400 aspirants for the 16-stage, 16-team race which kicks off Jan. 12 in Zamboanga City and ends in Baguio City Feb. 1.

Race organizer Ric Rodriguez said three slots are reserved for the 2012 top 3 finishers, led by defending champion Mark John Lexer Galedo, with the 93 others to be filled in by the top riders in the two-day qualifying races in Tarlac.

Day 1, on Oct. 27, is a 150km massed start from the Tarlac Provincial Sports Complex, Tarlac City through the towns and cities of Tarlac Province, and will finish at the Monasterio de Tarlac in San Jose, Tarlac. Only the top riders within 10 percent of the first placer’s time shall enter the second round.

Day 2, on Oct. 28, is a 25km individual time trial from the Tarlac Provincial Sports Complex to the towns of Tarlac and back.

The top 93 riders with the least accumulated time for the two rounds shall qualify for Ronda Pilipinas 2013. The 96 riders will be assigned to 16 teams vying for the individual as well as team honors won last year by Team V-Mobile.

The qualification race is open to all male Filipino citizens, 19 years old and above. Interested riders may join by completely filling out the application forms, and signing the Quit Claim and Waiver forms available for download at www.rondapilipinas.com.

All entry forms must then be mailed together with clear photocopies of two identification documents (ID) to Ronda Pilipinas 2013 secretariat at LBC Sports Development Corp., c/o LBC, fifth floor, Star Cruises Center Bldg., Resorts World Complex, Pasay City on or before Oct. 19.

Accepted IDs are NSO certified birth certificate, passport; voter’s ID; company ID and driver’s license.

Applicants must present a valid 2012 UCI-Philcycling race license, with the original copies of submitted IDs upon claiming race numbers on the evening of Friday, Oct. 26 in Tarlac City.
