Reigning North American Boxing Federation super bantamweight champ Bernabe Concepcion has attributed his win against Mexican champion Giovanni Caro to Filipino ring idol Manny Pacquiao.

Concepcion won via an eighth round knockout against Caro in the main event of the inaugural US promotional card of Pacquiao's MP Promotions last month at the Sycuan Resort and Casino in El Cajon, California.

According to World Boxing Council ring physician Dr. Allan Recto,  Concepcion was inspired by Pacquiao during the eighth round when he hit Caro in the lower abdomen that prompted the Mexican to wince in pain and point to his groin.

Recto added: “Even though the referee may not have seen the blow clearly, he ruled it a low blow”.

This resulted in a point off Concepcion after the referee sent Caro to the neutral corner and gave him time to recover.

Concepcion, meanwhile, said in restrospect: “[I] looked for Manny and he saw him clench his fist and point to his heart.”

"Nabuhayan ako dahil kay kuya Manny,” he added.

Immediately after that, Recto said an inspired Concepcion turned aggressive and hammered Caro with hard shots to the head, causing the knockout.

Recto noted, "[The tough Mexican] hit the canvas and could no longer continue”.

As for Concepcion, the doctor had this to say: "[Concepcion showed] his heart was bigger than Caro even as he looked determined to win at all costs.”  Ronnie Nathanielsz
